Under the direction of the Event Operations Manager, this position provides hands-on leadership and operational support to ensure high-quality special events and positive guest experiences. This role is responsible for assisting with the coordination and execution of all Riverbanks public and member events while serving as a working lead in the field. This position will supervise and support two Event Technicians, providing daily direction, task delegation, training reinforcement, and on-site leadership during event setup, execution, and breakdown.
Essential Functions
- Assist Event Operations Manager in all event logistics including event planning, production, vendors, supply orders, work requests, facilities, staffing, entertainment, food and beverage, and more to ensure successful and safe events.
- Serve as on-site lead during event execution, including hands-on set-up and breakdown for Riverbanks Signature Events. Availability to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Support day-to-day leadership of two Event Technicians, including task assignment, workflow coordination, training support, and quality control during event installation and teardown.
- Develop strong relationships and communication with Zoo partners and departments to ensure the efficient installation, operation and dismantling of Riverbanks’ signature events.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external event partners such as beverage distributors, catering companies, area restaurants, suppliers, fabricators and contractors as well as area colleges and universities.
- Assist in managing extensive event inventory including organization, purchasing, post-event assessments and ordering new inventory.
- Support a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented working environment with a focus on accountability and guest experience excellence.
- Utilize excellent customer service, verbal communication, and problem-solving skills in fast-paced event environments.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., operate a forklift and bucket lift as well as work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree with 1+ years of experience in event or hospitality management or equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience required. Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or lead experience preferred. Preferred candidates would have experience in a zoo/aquarium, theme park, sports, or live events environment.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on operational environment and demonstrate strong leadership potential. This individual should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable leading small teams in the field while executing event logistics. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high standard for guest service are required. Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to problem-solve in real time. Must be flexible for occasional weekends, holiday and after-hours assignments. Must possess or be eligible for a valid SC driver's license.
